Matt Michael - On the Farm Reporter

Matt Michael covered the Syracuse Chiefs and the International League for 17 years. He wrote stories about several future Yankees stars while they were still at Triple-A Columbus, including Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and El Duque Hernandez. He also wrote stories about Drew Henson, but they don't count.
Matt grew up in Bethlehem, Pa., close to the New Jersey border and about 95 miles from Yankee Stadium. He became a Yankees' fan in the early 1970s, when the Mike Kekich-Fritz Peterson wife swap was the best trade the Yankees could make. He cried his 11-year-old eyes out on that fateful day in 1974, when the Yankees traded his boyhood idol, Bobby Murcer.

Michael covered the Yankees in the post-season in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004. He was at Yankee Stadium for Tino's grand slam, Clemens-Piazza, Mr. November, the Paul O-Neill chants, Aaron Boone and, unfortunately, the end of the curse.

Matt is a big Beatles fan, and after the Yankees won the World Series in 2000 he walked onto the field at Shea Stadium and stood at second base. That's where Luis Sojo grounded his game-winning hit and it's also where the Beatles played one of their most famous concerts.

But more than anything else, Matt enjoys spending time with his children, Taryn and Taylor.
